The treatment of diabetes is based on diet therapy and exercise therapy, and is treated according to different conditions. Insulin injection is one of the important measures in drug treatment.

1. Storage of insulin:

Unopened insulin should be stored in a refrigerator at 2~8°C to avoid freezing. After opening, insulin can be stored at room temperature for 28 days (generally around 25°C). Direct sunlight and repeated shock should be avoided. When traveling, you can put your insulin in a thermal bag. The insulin pen in use should not be placed in the refrigerator, otherwise it will cause damage to the injection pen and affect its life. 2. Selection of injection site:

In order of absorption speed, the injection sites are the abdomen (except around the umbilicus), deltoid muscle of the upper arm, inner and outer thighs, and buttocks. For short-acting insulin, priority is given to injecting it into the abdomen, and for long-acting insulin (injection before bedtime), priority is given to injecting it into the buttocks. Long-term injection in the same site will reduce the ability of local tissues to absorb insulin. Once subcutaneous lipodystrophy occurs, insulin absorption will be affected, so attention should be paid to rotating injection sites. For example: 1) Left and right rotation: alternately from left to right (injection on the inside of the left leg at 7:00 on the first day and injection on the inside of the right leg at 7:00 on the second day); 2) Rotation of the same injection site in different areas : Inject 2 cm from the last injection site.

3. Injection method:

Insulin should be injected into the subcutaneous tissue.

1. Preparation before operation

1) Determine the meal time and make sure to eat within 30 minutes. Take the insulin out of the refrigerator 30 minutes before injection and wait until the solution is close to room temperature before injecting.

2) Wash your hands and prepare ethanol cotton balls and injection devices.

3) Check the insulin dosage form again.

4) Carefully observe the appearance of insulin: short-acting insulin is a colorless and transparent liquid, while medium-acting, long-acting and mixed insulin are suspensions with a uniform appearance, which turn milky white after gentle shaking.

2. Steps

1) If you inject medium-acting or long-acting insulin, you should place the medicine bottle flat in the palm of your hand, hold the medicine bottle with both hands, and roll it back and forth about ten times to fully mix the medicine in the bottle.

2) Before injecting insulin, use ethanol cotton balls to sterilize the bottle stopper.

3) Use a syringe to draw the same amount of air as the required insulin and inject it into the bottle.

4) Turn the medicine bottle upside down with your left hand and draw the required amount of insulin with your right hand.

5) When mixing two types of insulin by yourself, the short-acting insulin must be drawn first, and then the medium-acting or long-acting insulin. If the medium-acting or long-acting insulin is mixed into the short-acting insulin, the bottle of insulin cannot be used again.

6) Drain the air from the syringe.

7) After selecting the injection site, disinfect the skin with ethanol cotton balls.

8) After the ethanol dries, pinch the skin at the injection site with your thumb, index finger, and middle finger. With the other hand, quickly insert half of the needle into the injection site at a 45° angle, inject the liquid, and then relax and pinch it. skin, the needle stays under the skin for 10 seconds and then pulled out.

9) Press with a dry cotton ball and do not massage the injection site.

3. Precautions when using an insulin pen:

1) Insulin pens and insulin refills must be used together. Which manufacturer of insulin pens you use must use the matching insulin refills produced by that factory.

2) Check the properties and validity period of the Chinese medicine liquid in the refill and install the refill and needle. Premixed insulin must be shaken thoroughly.

3) Every time you install a new refill and needle, they must be vented. The method is to hold the pen vertically, turn the dose selection knob to "1" and then push it to "0" until one drop of insulin solution is discharged.

4) After selecting the injection site, perform routine disinfection, turn the dosage knob to the required insulin amount scale, hold the insulin pen in your right hand and insert the needle vertically into the subcutaneous tissue to inject the medicine. If the subcutaneous fat is thin, the needle should be inserted at a 45° angle. Return the dose knob to zero, and then remove the needle after staying under the skin for 10 to 15 seconds. After pulling out the needle, press it with a dry cotton swab for 2 minutes.

5) After the injection, put on the inner needle cap, unscrew the needle, discard the discarded needle, and put the pen cap back on.

4. How to reduce pain?

1. Let the insulin come to room temperature before injecting it.

2. The injection needle used is thin and sharp. 3. Wait for the ethanol to evaporate before injecting. 4. Pinch the skin with your hands will cause slight pain. 5. Change the injection site. 6. Use two fast and one slow injection methods. That is, inserting the needle in and out quickly and injecting slowly.
